Olivia graduated from the University of Dundee, Scotland in 2000 and completed her basic surgical training in Scotland. After completing and being awarded a masters in surgery from Trinity College Dublin, she entered the higher specialist training programme in trauma and orthopaedics. She was awarded a FRCS in trauma and orthopaedic surgery with RCSI in December 2011.

She passed the European Board of Hand Surgery Diploma examination in Paris in 2014.
