Our acute cardiac assessment service is run by a team of cardiac care specialists. Patients have rapid access to expert diagnosis and treatment.
Our cardiac consultants have access to the most advanced diagnostic equipment, including the latest in high-tech CT screening.
Who we treat
We see patients with urgent cardiac symptoms such as:
- chest pain and discomfort
- heart palpitations
- heart-related breathlessness
What to expect
When you call us, a member of our cardiology team will talk to you about next steps.
Depending on your symptoms, we will advise you to:
- go straight to our acute cardiac assessment unit
- book an appointment with our cardiology department
- go to your nearest emergency department
If you come to our acute assessment unit, an advanced nurse practitioner will assess you.
Your assessment may include:
- a review of your medical history
- blood tests
- a physical exam
- an electrocardiogram (ECG), a heart rhythm test
A consultant cardiologist will then review your results and discuss your care plan. This may involve:
- admission to our cardiology department
- Cath Lab intervention
- further tests or diagnostics
- a follow-up with a cardiologist
